BLABBERMOUTH.NET - MR. BIG: Video Footage, Photos From Japanese Press Conference Available Remember Me LAMB OF GOD "Wrath" GOD FORBID "Earthsblood" AS EDEN BURNS "The Great Celestial Delusion" SÉANCE "Awakening of the Gods" OBSCURA "Cosmogenesis" Last Updated: March 5, 2009 9:50 PM MR. BIG: Video Footage, Photos From Japanese Press Conference Available - Feb. 10, 2009 According to Random Chatter Music, the reunited original lineup of the acclaimed American hard rock supergroup MR. BIG — Eric Martin (vocals), Billy Sheehan (bass), Paul Gilbert (guitar) and Pat Torpey (drums) — held a press conference in Tokyo, Japan on Monday, February 9 to answer questions about its upcoming 20th-anniversary tour of Japan and other future activities. The entire group also performed a short acoustic set consisting of the following songs: * "Daddy, Brother, Lover, Little Boy" * "Green-Tinted Sixties Mind" * "Wild World" * "Alive And Kickin'" A Japanese TV report on the press conference can be viewed below. On February 11, MR. BIG will appear on the "Dave Fromm Show", a Japanese radio program, where they will also perform live in the studio. MR. BIG'a June 20 concert at Budokan in Tokyo will be filmed and recorded for an upcoming DVD and CD. MR. BIG's Japanese tour: June 05 - Zepp, Sapporo June 07 - Zepp, Sendai June 09 - Kouseinenkin Hall, Kanazawa June 10 - Zepp, Nagoya June 12 - Zepp, Fukuoka June 15 - Grand Cube, Osaka June 17 - Alsok Hall, Hiroshima June 18 - Kouseinenkin Hall, Osaka June 20 - Budokan, Tokyo Billy Sheehan told MusicRadar about MR. BIG's decision to reunite for a tour of Japan, "We got together last fall. It was just one of those things, the timing was right. We played a gig at the House Of Blues in L.A. and we smoked the joint. Afterwards, we all kind of looked at one another and were like, 'OK, that was cool...Now what?'" He continued, "The way I look at it is, it's like getting back with an old girlfriend. But because you want to, not because you have to. All of us are doing fine in our solo careers. This is something that felt right, and after that one gig we were like, 'We should do more of these. This was fun!' "We're in this to play and have a good time. When you consider the amount of rehearsals you have to have with a band, how much time you have to spend together, how many hours you have to sit on planes and backstage and whatever, there's no amount of money that can make it worthwhile unless you really want to do it." Formed in 1988, MR. BIG is probably best known for its 1991 rock hit "Green-Tinted Sixties Mind" as well as the 1992 acoustic smash "To Be With You". Paul Gilbert left the band in 1997 to pursue a solo career and eventually reform RACER X. Richie Kotzen, another Shrapnel artist and former guitarist for POISON, was brought in to take on guitar duties, also contributing occasional vocals. Two studio albums were released by this lineup — "Get Over It" in 2000 and "Actual Size" in 2001, which featured the single "Shine", used as the ending theme in the animation series of "Hellsing". PAUL GILBERT DESTROYS COMMENT | posted by : metaljenn 2/10/2009 12:57:35 PM > when did Eric Martin decide to go for the Laura Bush look? LOL. Someone on the Racer X board said that's actually kd lang. Either way... he could pass. LOL. And with all the shit he gave people years and years ago, he can take a few jabs now. It's all in good fun, anyway; we support Mr. Big even if we don't agree with Eric's choice of clothing that day. > why when Paul put the Mr. Big song in his set didn't he call Eric n' Billy up to perform with him? Mr. Big are saving the glory for the country that's treated them the best. That would be Japan. Japan will get the first, best, and last shows. It is their well-deserved reward. That is the same reason that Racer X did not do a "show before NAMM show" for the general public; they wanted to save the glory for NAMM and Ibanez, to give it more impact. I hope they have a super & sold-out 2 week tour in June! COMMENT | posted by : metaljenn 2/10/2009 12:59:00 PM They being Mr. Big of course. I shouldn't have been so vague. *smacks self upside the head, bans self from the internet* COMMENT | posted by : RiotAct666 2/10/2009 1:50:25 PM Paul Gilbert & Billy Sheehan are both more metal than you. COMMENT | . posted by : snuff_film_at11 2/10/2009 5:04:20 PM Mr. Big sucks, what shitty songs! I think only people in Japan care. sure, there are some serious players in the band, but the songs just suck balls. no need for a re-union. COMMENT | Still sharp as a knife posted by : vineclipse 2/10/2009 5:42:06 PM Classic act , the real deal . This a major band that really know what music is about . Sing a song from the heart and have a ball while playing/singing it . I guess they did not get that much of attention in the states cuz of a lack of music knowledge from people who thought that Motley Crue was metal (???lol???) ERIC happens to have one of the more unique and enjoyable voices that i`ve listened to . Here at the top of my list where Coverdale,Dio,Patton,Bono,Bach,Plant, and i will have to add Rose just because of the last album (althought i never liked the use your illusion albums, nevermind the spaguetti turd) PLEASE , PLEASE , PLEASE come to Costa Rica . You won`t make much money here but you`ll have real people who will apprettiate the art , and your music has always been art to my ears. COMMENT | Nice Video posted by : Moochacha 2/10/2009 7:20:08 PM Someone could really make a good movie about their lives =). Lol great video! Paul bashing the hell out of the acoustic guitar on the Drill song haha =) interesting comment by Paul an old interview, "Initially I was just really excited to be in a band with Billy Sheehan: I was a huge Talas fan. I’d also heard Eric’s voice…! But what ultimately surprised me was the lack of volume shredding and excitement: I’d expected more! I was so much younger and less experienced than the other guys that I did not grab the bull by the horns and so was basically a follower for what Mr. Big became. " Haha lol.. I think this reunion is not gonna be another greatest hits concert alone. (Lol ITS TIME TO GRAB THE BULL BY THE HORNS! YEAH LETS ROCK!!) I've only seen them do "Shy Boy" once, I hope I see it again! ---- Ps, you should check Eric Martin at myspace, talks about prospect tours after japan. You should check the original source of this thing also at Random Chatter Music, there were ALOT of things missed out, like plans for a new album, free tickets, etc. And the whole thing on Paul's comment: Then we come to Mr. Big: your success is quite remarkable when you consider it was right in the middle of the dreaded ‘Grunge’ era… Initially I was just really excited to be in a band with Billy Sheehan: I was a huge Talas fan. I’d also heard Eric’s voice…! But what ultimately surprised me was the lack of volume shredding and excitement: I’d expected more! I was so much younger and less experienced than the other guys that I did not grab the bull by the horns and so was basically a follower for what Mr. Big became. Ultimately, to me the band was a bit of a disappointment never really reaching the excitement level I had anticipated despite the commercial success. After Racer X – where every millisecond of free space was to be filled with some humongous musical excess – Mr. Big was, in reality, pretty tame! The first album sounded to me like a lot like Bryan Adams filler material, although I think the second album had some really great songs. COMMENT | the TRUTH is... posted by : englishrock 2/10/2009 8:56:51 PM Eric (KD) & Paul cant stand ea other. When u only hav 4 guys n a band - thats a 50% problem. But, like every1 else, nobodys gettin any younger and every1 could use some extra cash, so they'll inevitably put aside their differences (in Japan) and take the money & run. As far as a U.S. tour?? I doubt it. Nobody cared about them when they "were" revelant AND on the radio. There's NO denying their individual talent. Paul is a monster! COMMENT | =) posted by : Moochacha 2/10/2009 9:43:05 PM Been reading a lot of interviews on this, and you can't count how many reasons the band members had as to why the band really broke up, internal conflict, bad management, miscommunication, etc... but I guess bottom line, they all just needed a break. Can't seem to find anything about an Eric and Paul conflict though, all I know is that the conflict was usually between Billy and Eric, and Paul the annoyed one in caught in the middle. But who cares, that was like 10 years ago. The break up in 2002 was really an ugly way to end it, and I guess their fan base never got over it. I know, coz Pat has been over here in our country and teenagers are still asking if Mr. Big would have a reunion. Teenagers. Fans from youtube. Personally, I haven't known the band until a couple of months, but I fell for it completely. I think they wouldn't jump on this if they hadn't known about their fan base first. Man they've got alot of fans in south america and asia. And europe. In order to post a comment, please log in first. If you aren't signed up, sign up now.
