Billy Joel Houston, Texas November 1979 PRO-SHOT NTSC DVD TRT: 93 Minutes (approx.) VHS > DVD+R Bootleg > DVD Decrypter > VIDEO_TS This is a bit of a famous live bootleg audio-wise and has been making the rounds for years that way. I'm not certain when the video began circulating. The details of the actual show are a little sketchy; some sources stating it is from The Summit in Houston, TX 1980, but it is most likely November 1979. I also had trouble actually finding confirmation that Billy Joel played Houston in 1979. The closest I could find is that he played Maryland November 1, 1979; with an identical set-list (plus 2 more songs at the end of the show). The significance of the show itself, is that it takes place months before the album GLASS HOUSES was released and he plays songs from it; most notably a rare performance of "All For Leyna" featuring a guitar solo instead of a synth. I'm not sure why this show was filmed and what the intentions were for its release; most likely in promotion for the upcoming GLASS HOUSES LP, but as far as I can tell (through my research), it has never been officially released or aired...in whole or in part. This is Billy Joel in his prime. Look at this set-list!!! 1. Mexican Connection (intro) 00:00-00:16 2. Only the Good Die Young 00:16-04:55 3. Movin' Out (Anthony's Song) 04:55-08:52 4. Honesty 08:52-12:55 5. My Life 12:55-18:30 6. Piano Man 18:30-25:08 7. All for Leyna 25:08-29:57 8. Prelude-Angry Young Man 29:57-35:37 9. New York State of Mind 35:37- 10. The Stranger 11. Sometimes a Fantasy 12. Root Beer Rag 13. She's Always a Woman 1:01:00-1:05:12 14. Stiletto 1:05:12-1:10:32 15. Zanzibar 1:10:32-1:17:40 16. You May Be Right 1:17:40-1:22:46 17. Just the Way You Are 1:22:46-1:27:37 18. Big Shot 1:27:37-1:33:32 The Band: Billy Joel - vocals, piano Richie Cannata - sax, flute, keyboards Doug Stegmeyer - bass Russel Javors - guitar David Brown - guitar Liberty Devitto - drums Unfortunately the quality leaves much to be desired. It suffers from VHS generational issues, but is very watchable and listenable...despite a fair amount of audio hiss. V=7.5/10 A=7.5/10 Also, the DVD has chapter breaks, but they unfrotunately do not line up with the beginning of the tracks. It appears that the DVD was made by somebody who just went from a VHS copy to disc by using a VHS to DVD Recorder combo. This was not my doing. It is the way I got it. Sorry. I think that is about it.
