Huey Lewis and The News Ruth Eckerd Hall Clearwater, FL (USA) Jan. 9, 2003 ALD-Soundboard recording (a Jim Fiesler recording) ** mp3 samples provided (as always) in the Comments section ** A few months back, Jim (that's "undiscokidd" on DIME) had mentioned he had a bunch of near-perfect ALD-Soundboard recordings to share but needed someone to upload them on his behalf. That's where I come in. Hopefully this will be the first of several of Jim's fine recordings that I upload here for everyone to enjoy. Setlist: 101. Do You Believe In Love 209. Workin' For A Livin' > encore break (1:40 of crowd applause) 210. Huey thanks the audience 211. Doing It All For My Baby 212. Back In Time Note: Tracks 208-209 were encore #1, tracks 210-212 were encore #2 Interesting trivial facts from this show: 1) When Huey speaks to the audience in track 111, he mentions that the bandmembers all come from the San Francisco Bay area--and he gets chided by the Tampa Bay Bucs football fans in attendance for being a San Francisco 49ers fan. (The Bucs would host the 49ers in a NFL playoff game three dasys after this show, so emotions were high, appparently.) 2) Huey says he's a 49ers fan because was "born and raised" in San Francisco. Well, that's not exactly true. According to both Wikipedia and The All-Music Guide, Huey was born Huey Anthony Cregg III in NEW YORK, NY on July 5, 1950. He may have been raised in Marin County (California), but he most definitely was not BORN in San Francisco! 3) As it turned out--three days after this show--the Tampa Bay Buccaneers eliminated Huey's beloved San Francisco 49ers from the NFL playoffs by a score of 31-6, as you can see here: http://www.sportsline.com/nfl/gamecenter/recap/NFL_20030112_SF@TB Lineage: ALD/SBD > D8 (listen box) DAT > CDR Additional notes: * Deleted 25 seconds of pre-recorded music before start of 1st song (with Nero) * Deleted 20 seconds of audience applause at end of show (again with Nero) * Re-tracked show by combining in Nero, splitting with CD Wave ALD (assisted listening device) soundboard recordings are usually knocked for their "thin" sound quality (high amount of treble, not enough bass), but I don't think that's a real issue here at all. As such, Jim's files have been unaltered for sound quality (i.e., no EQ performed)--if some of you prefer to have more bass in your ALD recordings, I'll let you do your own EQ work since it then becomes a matter of personal taste. As for me, I think the show sounds great, as-is. Jim Fiesler notes: (regarding his ALD-SBD shows): "ALDs (fm-sbd) perfect captures in most or all cases..however somewhat lacking bass..more than regular fm..The best place to rec these shows was from the park lot..! the signal was the best there..!" If you decide to download this show, won't you please consider posting a comment on the show's board? It only takes a moment, and believe me, it takes A LOT longer to prepare/upload a show for others to enjoy than it does to download and run. And won't you please consider thanking Jim for this mighty fine show? Generously donated by Jim Fiesler (undiscokidd), and uploaded on DIME by TheCommish September 2008
